Toro y Moi at The Academy: Modern pop pioneer brings effortlessly cool to Dublin

Chillwave pioneer Toro y Moi brought his 2022 world tour to The Academy theatre this past Friday, October 14.

The South Carolina born multi-instrumentalist (full name Chazwick Bradley Bundick) has produced seven records under the Toro y Moi moniker and his most recent, ‘Mahal’, was released earlier this year to critical acclaim.

Although never quite breaking through to the mainstream zeitgeist, Toro y Moi has built up a dedicated cult audience over the past 12 years – consistently evolving and tinkering with his ever distinguishable and trademark sound.

His performance in The Academy was just as accomplished as his talents, as he and his band seamlessly flowed through material from various points in his diverse catalogue.

The now-California native exudes confidence and an effortlessly cool composure while on stage which certainly resonated with the crowd who danced and grooved their way through the 16-song set.
