Padraig Conlon 15 Aug 2022The autumn season brings a selection of concerts from renowned Irish musicians presenting a wide range of uplifting, exciting and challenging music in the beautiful surroundings of the Hugh Lane Gallery.
This season will feature two concerts from harpsichordist Malcolm Proud from Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, new music from radical music collective Kirkos, an audio-visual concert from Crash Ensemble’s Reflections commission series, and classical offerings from violinist Anna Cashell with harpist Aisling Ennis, Evlana Ensemble, Spotlight chamber group and the up-and-coming Aalto trio, winners of Chamberfest. We are delighted to welcome back Chamber Choir Ireland to the sculpture hall, this time for a concert of Hungarian works with guest director Zoltán Pad.

Malcolm Proud – harpsichord and chamber organ
Well-Tempered Clavier, Recital 1
In 1722 Bach issued Book 1 of his Well-Tempered Clavier, and for the past three centuries these 24 preludes and fugues have been essential repertoire for keyboard recitals and teaching. In order to mark the 300th anniversary, Malcolm Proud will play them over two recitals, each lasting about one hour and consisting of 12 preludes and fugues. He will perform them on harpsichord and chamber organ.

Taking its inspiration from Ondine by Maurice Ravel, a landmark work for solo piano, Ondine: Ravel and Beyond offers Irish audiences an opportunity to hear a rich palette of chamber works written in the years following the first performance of the composer’s tour de force in 1908, in addition to more recent works similarly inspired by composers Kaija Saariaho, Toru Takemitsu and Irish composer Siobhán Cleary.
