ALDI gets the green light for new €18M Clonsilla store

ALDI Ireland today confirmed it is set to open a new €18M store located in Clonsilla, after receiving planning permission from Fingal County Council.

Up to 30 permanent positions will be created upon opening, while up to 50 jobs will be supported during the construction period of the new store.

Investment in Dublin

The news comes shortly after ALDI announced it is examining 25 sites as potential locations for 11 new stores to be opened in Co. Dublin. The retailer has agreed terms for stores in Adamstown and Cabra, which are due to open early this year.

With 24 stores currently in the capital, ALDI has made a capital investment of €184 million in Dublin over the past 20 years. The addition of 11 new stores would bring the total ALDI store network in Dublin to 35 by 2027. ALDI currently employs over 670 people in Dublin with a €20.3 million total salary spend across its 24 stores in the county.

Working with 81 local producers, ALDI spent €193 million with these Dublin based suppliers in 2021.

Additionally, the retailer will invest almost €2.1 million in Dublin stores as part of its Project Fresh initiative.

ALDI Project Fresh stores focus on reducing the reliance on fossil fuels, using sustainable energy supply and saving CO2 emissions.

ALDI has pledged to invest €60 million across the country to revamp the design and energy efficiency credentials of its store network as part of the Project Fresh store upgrades, which have been taking place since 2017.

Clonsilla Store

The new store will feature ALDI’s award-winning Project Fresh layout. The 1,315sqm store will be powered by 100% green electricity, supported by 52 solar panels on its roof.

Customers will be able to benefit from eight electric vehicle charging points, along with 20 bike parking spaces. There will also be 83 free-to-use car parking spaces for customers.

Community Support

To date, ALDI’s Dublin stores have donated more than 278,000 meals to local charities through FoodCloud, saving the charities over €350,000. Each store nationwide is also part of ALDI’s Community Grants network, with Bumbleance, Pieta House and Dublin Simon Community just some of the many local charities that have availed of the €500 bursary grant in recent years.
