Dublin Winter Lights’ returns to Merrion Square Park
Padraig Conlon 24 Nov 2022Dublin City Council has announced the return of the dazzling ‘Dublin Winter Lights’ to Merrion Square Park.
The lighting installations will run from December 1st to December 22nd.
The Lord Mayor of Dublin Caroline Conroy said: “I am delighted to see the return of Dublin Winter Lights at Merrion Square Park. Almost 40 thousand people came last year, which was the first year of the event, so I’m expecting even more people to turn up this time. If you didn’t get a chance to see the lights last year, you’re in for a treat. So come along and feel the magic this festive season!”
Tickets for December 1st – December 14th will be available from tomorrow, November 25th, from 0800.
Tickets for December 15th – December 22nd will be available from 2nd December from 0800.
‘Dublin Winter Lights’ at Merrion Square will transform this historic urban park into a magical winter walk with lighting, projection, live characters and interactive elements to delight the whole family.
A 15m high Christmas tree will be fully projected with magical images and hundreds of LED lights will shine bright throughout the park. In addition Christmas FM will be broadcast in the park for the event.
There is a €2 euro per adult booking charge.
Each adult ticket admits two children.
The money raised will be used to help fund a Mobile Sensory Unit for future Dublin City Council events.

Tickets are limited to a maximum of 4 adult tickets per person.
Entry will start from 5pm each evening, with the last admissions at 9pm.
5pm to 5.30pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings will be reserved for Relaxed Viewing Tickets.
This time slot is designed to welcome people who will benefit from a more relaxed environment, including those with sensory issues.
During this slot, no music will be played, people will have more space to move around and there will be a designated sensory room away from the lights and sounds.

The Merrion Square Park installations are part of the wider ‘Dublin Winter Lights’ programme, which consists of 16 individual sites across Dublin city.
Since 2018, ‘Dublin Winter Lights’ has dazzled Dubliners with its unique and enchanting animations.
This year, the projections will be in place until the 1st of January.

The Lord Mayor has also chosen the 3 winners of this year’s Dublin Winter Lights Art Competition for primary school children, who will each be awarded a prize.
Their artwork, along with that of everyone who entered, will be projected at Barnardo’s Square on Dame Street during the month of December.
This year’s theme for the artwork was ‘Christmas in Dublin’.
