Free Dún Laoghaire energy event: Enhance home efficiency and reduce costs

The ‘Energy Upgrades at Home and in the Community’ information event and exhibition takes place on Saturday, October 10, from 11am to 2pm at County Hall, Marine Road, Dún Laoghaire.

Admission is free, but advance booking is required.

Designed to make energy upgrades easier to understand, the event will bring trusted energy experts together under one roof to provide straightforward advice on everything from simple, no-cost energy-saving measures to comprehensive home energy upgrades.

Visitors will be able to learn more about energy bills and smart meters, Building Energy Ratings (BER), available grants, finance options, solar energy and community-led energy projects.

The programme features three practical information sessions, giving visitors the flexibility to attend the topics most relevant to their home or community and speak to experts one-to-one in the exhibition area.
 
Home Energy Upgrades: Where to Start and Finance Available 

The first session will help homeowners understand where to begin when considering an energy upgrade.

Topics will include Building Energy Ratings (BER), SEAI grants, finance options and One Stop Shop supports.

The aim is to take some of the uncertainty out of planning a retrofit and help people understand the different supports and routes available to them.
 
Practical Tips to Save Energy and Money 
Not every energy improvement needs to involve a major renovation.

This session will focus on simple, practical and lower-cost actions that households can take to reduce energy use and manage bills.

Topics will include understanding energy bills and smart meters, quick energy-saving wins around the home and insights from a homeowner’s own energy-upgrade experience.

The session is intended to give attendees ideas they can start considering immediately, alongside information on longer-term improvements.
 
Empowering Communities to Work Together 
The final session turns the spotlight on the power of communities to deliver local energy projects. It will explore Sustainable Energy Communities, Solar PV, battery storage and electricity export, Solar Meitheal initiatives and community buying clubs.

The session will demonstrate how neighbours and community organisations can work together, share knowledge and develop projects capable of delivering environmental and financial benefits locally.

The event is aimed at a broad audience, including homeowners, residents’ associations, Sustainable Energy Communities and other community groups, as well as anyone interested in reducing energy consumption, saving money or contributing to climate action in their local area.
