Road closure planned during Cherrywood water works

Work is beginning on a €2.6 million upgrade to the water network in Cherrywood that will support the development of approximately 3,300 new homes.

Uisce Éireann said the project would increase the capacity of the local network and provide a more reliable water supply for existing homes and businesses as the area continues to grow.

The work will involve upgrading 220 metres of water mains on the south side of Cherrywood Business Park and along Brides Glen Road.

A section of Brides Glen Road, between Mullinastill Road and the M50, will be closed for the duration of the project.

Uisce Éireann has not specified how long the closure will remain in place but said the overall project was expected to be completed in early 2027.

The utility company said it would seek to minimise disruption and keep residents, businesses and motorists informed as the work progressed.

Michael McManus, programme manager with Uisce Éireann, said the existing network required additional capacity to meet future demand.

“The installation of new water mains will increase capacity and help provide the infrastructure needed to support new homes and sustainable development,” he said.

The project is being delivered through Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme, which funds infrastructure required to accommodate new housing and wider development.

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne said the investment would provide a more dependable water supply while facilitating further growth in Cherrywood.

“It will also support future development and growth by putting in place the right infrastructure for Cherrywood to continue thriving as a place to live and work,” he said.

The work will be carried out by GMC Utilities on behalf of Uisce Éireann. Details of traffic restrictions and any changes affecting water supplies are expected to be issued as the project proceeds.
