South Dublin customers advised of emergency overnight repair to major watermain

Dublin People 13 Aug 2026

Uisce Éireann crews are to carry out emergency repairs to a major burst watermain in Rathfarnham tonight, with normal water supply expected to return to all affected customers by the morning.

Customers in Rathfarnham, Terenure, Milltown, Rathgar, Dartry, Kimmage, Rathmines, Harolds Cross and surrounding areas in Co Dublin may experience low water pressure or temporary interruptions to their water supply while these essential repairs are underway.

Repairs are due to commence at 8pm this evening and are expected to be completed by 6am tomorrow morning, Friday, 14 August. The repair work is being carried out overnight to minimise disruption to homes, businesses and traffic in the area.

Uisce Éireann’s Water Operations Manager Keith Conmy has assured customers that every effort is being made to safely carry out the repair and restore a full water supply as quickly as possible. “We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned water outage, and we thank customers for their support while our work continues,” he said.

In areas where supply has been disrupted, most properties should have adequate storage in their attic tanks for hygiene purposes for at least 24 hours.

Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.

To ensure the safety of the crews carrying out the repairs and the safety of the public, traffic management will be in place and will be clearly signposted.
