20 childminders in South Dublin will receive support through development grants, a Fine Gael Minister has said.

Minister Emer Higgins said the grants help childminders to purchase toys, childcare equipment, safety equipment, inclusion equipment and materials related to the arts and science.

“Childminders play a really important part of Ireland’s early learning and childcare sector. They give essential support to children, families and communities across South Dublin, and the country.

“I’m delighted to see funding of €20,000 for childminders in South Dublin.

“I want to acknowledge the childminders across South Dublin who provide fantastic care for children and deliver a high-quality service.”

The grants were open to all childminders, including those planning to open a childminding business in 2026. 75% of the grant is paid in advance to help childminders with the upfront costs of purchasing equipment.

Successful applicants will receive information about their grant awards over the coming days.

“Across the country, €422,000 has been awarded to 424 childminders, which is the highest number of recipients and the largest amount of funding ever awarded under the scheme.

“This increase in funding highlights the growing demand for childminders in our communities and the important role they play.

“These grants are vital to assist childminders to further improve the quality of the care they provide,” concluded Minister Emer Higgins.
