Over 350 e-scooters seized so far in 2026, Fianna Fáil TD reveals

Fianna Fáil TD Cormac Devlin has welcomed a “significant” rise in the number of e-scooters seized by Gardaí.

The rise in e-scooter seizures comes in the wake of what Devlin described as “incidents of antisocial behaviour and dangerous misuse.”

By way of Parliamentary Question to the Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan, Deputy Devlin sought details on the number of e-scooters confiscated in the Garda Dublin Metropolitan Region in 2024, 2025, and to date in 2026.

In his response, Minister O’Callaghan confirmed that 352 e-scooters have already been seized in the first two months of 2026.

Welcoming the figures, Devlin said, “the sharp increase in e-scooter seizures so far this year demonstrates clearly that antisocial behaviour and dangerous misuse are being taken extremely seriously by An Garda Síochána. These vehicles, while convenient, must be used responsibly and within the law.”

“Gardaí have robust legislative powers to tackle the misuse of e-scooters, and it is encouraging to see a proactive and visible enforcement approach being taken across our communities.”

Devlin said that targeted, intelligence-led policing was a key factor in e-scooters being taken off roads.

“It is essential that Gardaí continue to gather local intelligence and focus enforcement efforts on areas where misuse is most prevalent. These operations are crucial in addressing illegal and unsafe behaviour on our roads and footpaths.”

Figures provided show a clear upward trend in enforcement activity. In 2024, a total of 208 e-scooters were seized, rising to 647 in 2025. The 352 seizures recorded by the end of February 2026 already represent over 54% of last year’s total.

“The fact that more than half of last year’s total seizures has already been reached in just two months underlines the scale of the issue, but also the effectiveness of Garda enforcement in the Dublin Metropolitan Region,” he said.

“Misuse of e-scooters will not be tolerated. This strong and consistent approach is helping to make our roads and communities safer for everyone.”

Devlin stated, “Fianna Fáil is committed to building safer communities. I want to commend Minister O’Callaghan for his leadership on this issue, and to recognise the dedication and professionalism of An Garda Síochána in keeping people safe.”
