Dublin South FM marks 30 years with live Dundrum broadcast
Padraig Conlon 05 Jun 2025
Dublin South FM is celebrating 30 years on air today with a live outside broadcast from 4pm to 5pm at Dundrum Town Centre.
The broadcast, taking place on Level 3 near the Tesco entrance, is supported by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council with the kind permission of Dundrum Town Centre management.
Founded in 1995, the community radio station aired its first show on June 5 that year from studios in the PYE Centre, a site with its own broadcasting heritage dating back to the 1930s.
Station founder Mike Purcell remembers that first day clearly.
“The sun shone extra brightly on the Dublin South Community Radio studios,” he said.
Since then, Dublin South FM has grown into a well-established voice for local culture, business and community affairs.
For the past 18 years, it has operated from studios in Dundrum Town Centre and continues to broadcast daily on 93.9FM.
Today’s anniversary show will feature Purcell, along with local business leaders and community representatives, discussing the role of community radio and the value of local storytelling.
The public are invited to drop by and be part of the celebration.
“This is not just about us,” a spokesperson for the station said.
“It’s about community radio as a whole – independent, inclusive, and made by people who care deeply about where they live.”
