Ward welcomes footpath funding

Dún Laoghaire TD Barry Ward has welcomed confirmation that Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council will receive €880,000 to target footpath repairs across the local authority area.

This funding has been announced today by the Minister for Transport and will be targeted at footpaths in areas most in need of urgent repairs.
Discussing the funding, the Fine Gael TD said “the dedicated fund for footpath repairs announced today is really positive and reflects the clear need to support our local authority in addressing the concerns of residents, about the standard of some of the footpaths, which have been consistently flagged by both local councillors and TDs.”
“I am out going door to door across the Dún Laoghaire constituency on a weekly basis, and I have met countless residents that have raised concerns about the condition of the footpaths near their homes and on major thoroughfares.”
“This is not just about improving the aesthetic of an area; more importantly, this is a safety issue particularly for people with mobility issues, people with visual impairments and for people that use buggies. As a father of a young child, you really become aware, very quickly, about how important it is to maintain and upgrade paths.”
“I look forward to working with DLRCC on this project and I expect the funding to be made available as soon as possible so that the council can get to work addressing the paths most in need of repairs,” he said.
