New funding for Greenways will make South Dublin a healthier and more sustainable place to live, said Fine Gael Minister Emer Higgins.

Minister Higgins welcomed this significant investment, highlighting it as a major boost for walking and cycling infrastructure in South Dublin, particularly in her constituency of Dublin Mid West. This includes crucial funding to complete the Greenway at Hazelhatch Bridge, a key link that will enhance local connectivity and provide a valuable amenity for residents and visitors alike.

“I’m delighted to see that €2.1 million has been allocated for Greenways in South Dublin, including my constituency of Dublin Mid West. This funding will be used for the development of walking and cycling facilities that offer safe, sustainable, and healthier transportation options to communities”, said Minister Higgins.

“Our Greenway plays an important role in supporting local communities to create jobs and brings visitors to our area.

“Greenways across Ireland have been a huge success, showcasing our beautiful landscape, bringing visitors to overlooked areas and helping local businesses to thrive and create a space in our communities that everyone can enjoy.

“Our local Greenway will encourage tourism in the future, and also provide a safe, segregated space for people walking and cycling.

“The completion of the Greenway at Hazelhatch Bridge will be a key link in this network, further strengthening connectivity in South Dublin and beyond. There is huge excitement around the Grand Canal Greenway, and I look forward to the delivery of new and expanded routes in the coming years.

Minister Higgins also emphasised the wider benefits of this investment: “This funding is key to enhancing connectivity and improving quality of life for communities across South Dublin and Dublin Mid West. It reflects Fine Gael’s strong commitment to expanding sustainable transport options and providing healthy, sustainable alternatives to driving.

“As the days grow longer people in South Dublin and Dublin Mid West. are eager to get out into nature and Greenways offer a safe, sustainable, healthy option”, concluded Minister Higgins.
