Public meeting on new County Council grants for Domestic Wastewater Systems in Glencullen
Padraig Conlon 08 Jan 2025An information public meeting was held recently by Cllr. Pierce Dargan, a County Councillor for Glencullen – Sandyford in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, on the new Domestic Wastewater Treatment Systems grants that are now opened for Glencullen and other areas in 2025.
The Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage have grants available to homeowners towards the cost of remediation, repair, upgrading or replacing of their failing Domestic Wastewater Treatment Systems, (DWWTS) which are also known as septic tanks.
These grants are available for specific areas, High Status Objective Catchment Area (HSOCA), as referenced in the current draft River Basin Management Plan 2022-2027.
Glencullen has been designated as a HSOCA and therefore houses that fall in the catchment area are able to apply for grants that if successful are worth 85% of the cost up to €12,000 to replace, repair or upgrade septic tanks.
The meeting was supposed to be held in person at the Glencullen Library but unfortunately given the dangerous driving conditions due to the snowfall and ice was moved online.
It was chaired by Cllr. Dargan with a presentation by recently re-elected TD for Dublin – Rathdown, Minister of State Neale Richmond. Minister Richmond gave the meeting an overview of the recent changes that were implemented with the new budget in 2025.
A representative from the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Water Pollution Control Section gave an in-depth presentation on the requirements and process for the Domestic Wastewater Treatment Systems grant and answered multiple questions from attendees.
Cllr. Dargan who organised and chaired the meeting said “A huge thank you to all who attended and also to our great presenters Minister Richmond and the representative from the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Water Pollution Control Section.
“There was a huge amount of information given and questions that were answered in relation to these grants. I would highly recommend anyone who is interested in seeing if they are eligible to contact the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.”
