Enabling works have begun on the site of a landmark Dublin development being delivered jointly by the Land Development Agency (LDA) and Dublin City Council (DCC).

The Donore Project, which will include 543 homes as well as a new creche, community spaces and landscaped public areas, is being built on the former St. Teresa’s Gardens site, located off Donore Avenue in Dublin 8, adjacent to the historic Liberties.

Planning permission for the development was granted in June 2023, and once complete, it will deliver 389 cost-rental and 154 social homes.

These initial works are scheduled to run until December 2024, with the main contract for construction to be awarded before the end of the year.

Phelim O’Neill, Head of Property with the Land Development Agency said: “This is another milestone in the Donore Project’s delivery as we begin the enabling works on this fantastic site in the heart of the south inner city.

“Through our partnership with Dublin City Council we have designed and will deliver a sustainable and integrated community, which will cater for the needs of families, older people and renters, and which will make a real difference to the lives of people living and working in Dublin 8.”

Dave Dinnigan, Director of Housing with Dublin City Council said:  “The commencement of these works marks another significant step forward for this important project.

“We have had extensive engagement with local residents and businesses on this development and are confident that it will regenerate and rejuvenate an already thriving community”.
