Liffey Street works expected to be completed by mid-August

The Liffey Street upgrade works are almost complete.

According to Dublin City Council, there is some final work to be done on public lighting and utilities remaining which are expected to be completed by late August.

The Meeting Place Statute (also known as the ‘Hags with the Bags’) was returned to Liffey Street last week.

The statue by artist Jackie McKenna was removed earlier this year to facilitate the major upgrades to the street, with  city councillors unsure of where the statue would end up.

The two iconic Ladies returned to the new and Improved Lower Liffey Street after being cleaned and refurbished on July 10.

While it appears work is complete with the restoration of the Meeting Place Statue, there is still additional work to be completed.

The works called for a new granite paved streetscape with modern street furniture, including but not limited to public lighting, public benches, lighting poles and bollards.

There will be limited use by cars and other vehicles the area will be pedestrianised between the hours of 11am and 6am the next morning.
