Sinnott says dangerous potholes must be addressed

Social Democrats Councillor Justin Sinnott has praised members of South Dublin County Council for passing his motion that calls for potholes to be fixed across south county Dublin.

Sinnott’s motion read “this Council notes with concern the increasing number of potholes on the road and bike lane network across South Dublin County Council and requests that repairs are carried out as a matter of urgency.“

Sinnott expressed concern at the number of potholes across Rathfarnham, Templeogue and Greenhills.

He said the repairs of the potholes should be made a priority.

“The most important job any County Council has is to ensure that our roads and cycle lanes are kept safe and usable for motorists and cyclists. There are too many potholes and there needs to be greater urgency in fixing them.”

Sinnott’s motion was backed by other members of SDCC, with other elected reps speaking on their own experiences with sub-standard roads in the council’s jurisdiction.

A budget of €9 million was previously agreed by SDCC for road maintenance, but extra funding will be made available to deal with this issue and that more funds would be made available to address the issue.

Sinnott said “I am pleased that the Council has indicated its willingness to increase the budget to address the issue and I hope it will remain a priority for the rest of this year.”
