Sinnott co-opted onto South Dublin County Council

Justin Sinnott has been co-opted as the Social Democrats’ new councillor on South Dublin County Council.

At a meeting of the council this week, Sinnott was co-opted to the seat vacated by Carly Baily, who is stepping back from representative politics but will remain working with the party.

Speaking after the meeting, Sinnott said he was “honoured” to represent the Social Democrats on South Dublin County Council “at such an exciting time for the party under Holly Cairns’ new leadership.”

“I share the party’s vision for progressive policies in areas like health, housing, public services and the environment. These issues will be key priorities for me as I begin my new role as a Social Democrats councillor for the Rathfarnham-Templeogue local electoral area.”

Cairns said welcomed Sinnott’s co-opting onto the Council, saying “I am delighted to introduce Justin as our party’s newest councillor and have no doubt that he will continue the great work carried out by Carly Bailey, who has been an exceptional public representative for her community since 2019.”

“Carly has always had a huge passion for equality and social justice and will continue to fight for change along with her colleagues in the Social Democrats.”

Sinnott is making a return to elected politics, having served as an Independent councillor for the Swords local electoral area between 2014 and 2019.

Sinnott comes to the world of politics from the education sector, with over 20 years’ experience working in further and higher education, and currently works as a manager with Solas in the Transformation Project Management Office.
