Victorian Pavilion on Dun Laoghaire’s East Pier should be reinstalled, Senator says

South Dublin Senator Victor Boyhan has called on Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to reinstall the Victorian Pavillion on Dun Laoghaire Pier.

Constructed in the 1890s from wrought and cast iron, the Victorian Pavilion was seriously damaged during Storm Emma in 2018.

The pavilion structure was then dismantled and brought off site for conservation work sometime after the storm.

However, four years later, the pavilion has yet to be reinstated on the pier.

“The Dun Laoghaire Pier Victorian Pavilion was once one of the most iconic iron structures on the East Pier,” Senator Boyhan says.

“I  raised my concerns with officials of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and was informed that to date “no funds have been identified” to have this iconic structure restored.

Senator Boyhan said he was anxious to ensure that the pavilion was restored, repainted and returned to its original location opposite the Victorian Band Stand on Dun Laoghaire’s East Pier.

“I am committed to pursuing options around  co-funding heritage grants to assist with the cost of restoration of the Pavilion and will undertake to work with the council to pursue funding option for this project,” he says.
