DCC announces Pembroke Library will now open every day of the yearGary Ibbotson 04 Aug 2022
Dublin City Council has announced that Pembroke Library is now open every day of the year.
In a statement, the local authority said that “My Open Library has launched at Pembroke Library.”
“In an extension of the existing service, library users who register for My Open Library can now access the branch from 8 am to 10 pm, 365 days a year.
“This initiative is in addition to existing staffed hours at Pembroke Library which remain unchanged.”
Speaking at the launch the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Caroline Conroy said: “I welcome this initiative which will strengthen the library’s position as a focal point for the community.
“The staffed hours, combined with the extended My Open Library hours, allow library members to access the full range of library facilities on a self-service basis at times that suit them best, particularly those who may not be able to access their library during regular staffed times. It’s a great example of how technology can support better access to library services.”
The Lord Mayor thanked the Department of Rural and Community Development for their support for My Open Library.
The City Librarian, Mairead Owens said: “Experienced and committed library staff are key to the success of our libraries and the full, staffed service continues to be provided as before.
“While people can also have access from home to our virtual library and e-resources, the library environment itself can provide a space where users can reflect and concentrate on reading, study and other activities. My Open Library lets more people than ever have access to this free democratic space.”
