Homes evacuated following major wildfire in Killiney

Several homes were evacuated and two fighfighters were injured during a major wildfire in Killiney overnight.

Dublin Fire Brigade say the fire started at around 5.30pm yesterday when smoke wcould be seen coming from a gorse fire on Killiney Hill.

Last night, firefighters fought the blaze with 7 pumps and crews, 2 water tankers and an aerial drone.

The fire came within metres of some homes which led to the evacuation of several houses as a precaution.

There were two areas of operations to protect houses on Glenaula Road and Ballinclea Heights.

All residents are safe.

“Four crews and pumps remain on scene at Killiney,” Dublin Fire Brigade said in a statement this morrning.

“Firefighters fought the fire throughout the night and a large logistical operation was put in place to ensure lighting and consumables such as BA cylinders and diesel were available.

“Operations to protect houses was successful.”
