Man charged with Stephen’s Green assault on Saturday night

Gardaí have charged a man, aged in his late teens, in relation to a robbery and assault that occurred in St. Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2 on Saturday 16th October 2021.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: “Shortly after 1am, a man who was walking in the area, was assaulted by a man.

“The suspect took a number of personal items from the man during the course of the assault.

“The injured man was taken to St. James’ Hospital via ambulance for treatment of his injuries which are understood to be non-life threatening.

“Following further enquiries, and while on patrol in Dublin 2 later that night, Gardaí observed the suspect and arrested him on Fitzwilliam Street.

“He was taken to Pearse Street Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

“The stolen property was recovered by Gardaí and returned to the owner.”

The arrested man has since been charged and is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning at 10.30am.
