Sandyford Business District launches eCargo bike scheme for businesses

Sandyford Business District (SBD), in cooperation with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, and bike-sharing company Bleeper, recently launched an eCargo bike scheme for businesses based in the District.

The pilot scheme will mean that eCargo bikes are now available to rent to businesses in the District which will allow for faster, greener and more accessible delivery of their products and or services to customers.

eCargo bikes are an adaptable way of transporting items with zero emissions and no associated costs like road tax or parking.

They are electric powered cycles with a large storage area usually placed at the front of the bike making them easy to manoeuvre. Businesses will benefit from the lower costs associated with operating an electric bicycle compared to more traditional delivery methods while providing healthier practices for delivery staff.

The introduction of eCargo bikes in Sandyford Business District marks an important milestone in the Business Association’s sustainability practices which is focused on significantly reducing carbon emissions.

As such the Business Association is delighted to take delivery of the first eCargo bike in the District.

The idea behind the pilot is to showcase the business and environmental benefits of replacing local car and van deliveries with more sustainable means. The initiative is another project among several developed and deployed by local actors such as Sandyford Business District in cooperation with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to support local businesses and the wider community on the journey towards a sustainable future.

The pilot project is now live and it is open to any businesses based in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown with facilities to safely and securely store an eCargo bike.

“I am very happy to confirm that the scheme is now up and running and we have secured huge interest to date. The fact that so many local businesses have embraced the initiative demonstrates the growing willingness in the community here for such important measures.
