As part of their fundraising efforts to support the campaign to stop the development of the Bailey Gibson and Player Wills sites, Dublin 8 residents are hosting online Zoom quiz on Friday, April 9.

Guest performances from Bell X1’s Paul Noonan and Camille O’Sullivan will given on the night as well as numerous spot prizes for quiz contestants.

In a statement, the residents group The Players Please says the quiz is part of its “unique” efforts to fund the development dispute.

“With a first prize of €500 and a huge selection of spot prizes from businesses across the community including concert tickets like Bon Iver, BBQ vouchers, coffee for a month from Marlowe & Co and Free Pizzas, there are over 60 teams already signed up.

“The fundraiser is to help pay for the High Court action being taken by the community to halt a series of tower blocks ranging from 15 to 19 stories and co-living units being built on the John Player Factory site on the South Circular Road.

“The Quizmaster on the night is local resident and broadcaster Esther O’Moore Donohoe and she has a fiendish collection of questions designed to test the toughest quizzers!

“The Players Please group is comprised of over 500 households across the neighbourhood untied to ensure that the huge John Player site is developed with sustainable homes in line with the existing Dublin development plan and not by a profit driven developer.”
