Charity box stolen and meeting room vandalised at Drimnagh church

Drimnagh locals are said to be in shock after the meeting room in the Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel on Mourne Road was vandalised on Tuesday afternoon.

The charity box was also stolen after the thieves pried it from the wall.

Local Sinn Fein councillor Daithí Doolan said the incident was a “new low.”

“Tuesday’s robbery and vandalism has left the Drimnagh community in shock.

“The robbery took place at approximately 1:30pm on Tuesday afternoon.

“The St. Anthony poor box was ripped out of the wall and the meeting room vandalised.”

Doolan says that the robbery “was totally acceptable,” and the thieves “were literally robbing from the poor.”

“I would appeal to anyone with information to please contact the Gardaí. Thise involved in this terrible crime must be caught and face justice.”

A Garda spokesperson said that they “are investigating an incident of burglary that occurred at a premises in Drimnagh, Dublin 12 on 16 March 2021.

“A number of items are believed to have been stolen during the incident.”

Gardaí says that investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made.
