Online St Patrick’s Day event after Clondalkin parade cancelled

Gary Ibbotson 09 Feb 2021

The Clondalkin St Patrick’s Day Parade has been officially cancelled once again due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.

The parade is usually held on an annual basis in the south-west Dublin town but it is now cancelled for a second year running.

In lieu of a parade, Independent councillor Francis Timmons is organising an online event featuring local residents.

In a statement, Timmons said: “Unfortunately we had to cancel the parade this year due to Covid-19 but instead, we are doing a virtual event on St Patrick’s Day at 3pm on our Facebook group.

“We are asking people to send a video to me at 0872869315 – we are looking for videos with jokes, dancing, magic tricks, songs and poetry.

“Although we can’t be physically together this year, we can celebrate community online – I hope we get lots looking to take part and look forward to the online event.

“We really hope to be back with a full parade in 2022.”
