Public consultation begins on pedestrianisation plans for Dame Street

Public consultation on pedestrianisation plans for Dame Street begins today.

A new two-way cycle path between South Great George’s Street and Anglesea Street is being proposed as well as several other different options.

At yesterday’s meeting of the Traffic and Transport Strategic Policy Committee an ambitious plan to “reinvent” College Green as the major public space at the heart of the city was put forward.

One proposal would grant vehicle access and deliveries all day while another would restrict access to the hours between 6am and 11am.

In a statement council management confirmed that the National Transport Authority’s final report on the redesign of bus services in Dublin removes the need for buses to use Dame St from South Great Georges St to Trinity College.

“This now creates an opportunity to significantly improve the public realm along Dame Street between South Great George’s Street and Anglesea Street, as part of the College Green Plaza project,” the council statement said.

The Consultation period will run until 15th of January 2021 and all the required documentation will be available on the Dublin City Council consultation hub from today November 5.

Dublin City Council recently proposed the permanent pedestrianisation of several streets in the Grafton Street area following successful trials that took place over the summer months.
