Woman (54) dies after being hit by car linked to Dalkey robbery

Gardaí in Dun Laoghaire are appealing for witnesses following a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Avondale Road in Killiney at approximately 9.20pm last night.

A female pedestrian (54) involved in the collision was taken to St Vincent's University Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. The other female pedestrian (51) remains at the hospital for treatment. Her injures are not believed to be life-threatening.

Investigating gardaí are appealing for witnesses, particularly to those with camera footage who were in the area between 9pm and 9.30pm.

The collision is connected to an earlier incident in Dalkey when a number of males entered a convenience store on Barnhill Roas. It’s understood they threatened staff before making off with a sum of cash.

They left the scene in car that was involved in a collision with two female pedestrians’ moments later at the junction of Ballinclea Road and Avondale Road in Killiney. They abandoned the car at the scene of the collision and fled on foot.

The occupants of the car have not yet been located and searches in the area are continuing. Gardaí say no one was physically harmed in the raid.

Crime scenes are currently preserved on both Barnhill Road and Ballinclea Road/Avondale Road. The services of Garda forensic collision investigators and local scenes of crime officers have been requested.

Anyone who can assist with this investigation is asked to contact Dun Laoghaire Garda Station 01-6665000 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
