The introduction of the DART service in Dublin in 1984 is described in this short film as a “transport revolution” – and it certainly changed commuters’ lives forever.

This film was made in 1986 by Jim Dolan, who was then a film and TV student at Ballyfermot Senior College.

Two years after the electrification of the line, it tells of the obstacles and challenges faced by those involved in the project, which started in 1980 and took four years to complete.

It also gives a flavour of how the new service was received by Dubliners.

We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
