More acts added to Big Sleep Out

THE cross-border charity Depaul has announced more additions to the line-up for The World’s Big Sleep Out at Trinity College today.

Rock/pop trio Saarloos, folk band Ragair, singer/songwriter Rhob Cunningham and Dublin poet Stephen James Smith, will join The Script for one night in a bid to raise money to help fight global homelessness.

Dun Laoghaire native, Rhob Cunningham, will also do a set on the evening alongside Smith, who has been central to the rise of the vibrant spoken word scene in Ireland today.

Depaul, which works in the area of homelessness and homeless prevention is the beneficiary charity and partner of The World’s Big Sleep Out in Ireland.

David Carroll, Chief Executive of Depaul said: “We are delighted to announce the full line up of talent for the World’s Big Sleep Out event at Trinity College which will see an evening of eclectic music which will suit a diverse range of tastes.

“The number of homeless in Ireland is at an all-time high and increasing – urgent action is required to address the human suffering that we are witnessing on our streets every day.

“I would encourage anyone who is preparing for the Christmas festivities to take one night out and join with thousands of others to make a difference.”

There are 52 cities and towns confirmed to be taking part arpund the world including London, New York, Belfast, Chicago and Singapore

People are urged to register for an official event or sign up to ‘Host Your Own’ sleep out in a backyard, office car park, high school, university campus or elsewhere by visiting www.bigsleepout.com.

Registration is now open with each participant committing to fundraising as much as they can.

One hundred per cent of funds raised will go towards homelessness charities, with a 50/50 split between local and global charities helping homeless and displaced people.

It is hoped that an estimated 50,000 participants will collectively achieve a fundraising target of €45 million which will be invested to sustainably help around one million homeless and displaced people all over the world.

As well as benefiting local charities, partners for the campaign include Malala Fund and the Institute of Global Homelessness.
