Rathfarnham students get Creative during Schools Week

STUDENTS from Rathfarnham ETNS took part in the first ever ‘Creative Schools Week’ celebrations recently.

All during the week children and young people celebrated Ireland’s first ever ‘Creative Schools Week’ with a programme of one-day flagship events in venues around the country.

The Arts Council hosted events in The National Gallery, Dublin – with a visit from the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan – as part of these ‘Creative Schools Week’ celebrations, where children and young people from Creative Schools in Wicklow and Dublin will be sharing their work.

For example, primary students from Rathfarnham set up a studio space with ceramics and a collage while talking about sketching activities and their processes. Bunscoil Loreto, Dublin, also gave an orchestral performance and pupils from North Wicklow ENTS will led a climate change banner making workshop.

The aim of The Arts Council delivered Creative Schools programme, whyich was in 300 schools this year, is to put the arts and creativity at the centre of the life of every child in every school in the country.

Additionally, every school – almost 4,000 primary, post-primary schools and Youthreach centres – were invited to participate in the week of celebrations, with a school’s celebration pack available to download from The Arts Council website

Stepaside ETNS students created head pieces using recycled materials, and wore them within the Creative Schools space.
