Water warning for locals as supply works commence

RESIDENTS and businesses across parts of the Southside have been urged to conserve water as major works are carried out to safeguard supply.

Irish Water and South Dublin County Council advise customers last week that essential works to improve security of water supply will be carried on a trunk water main on Slade Road.

As a result, road closures are in place for the duration of the works and diversions in place from until Sunday, September 1.

The location of the road closure is on Slade Road/Castle Road between the Mill Road/Páirc Mhuire Road junction in Saggart Village beside the Insomnia Coffee shop to the junction beside the Millbrook Manor Nursing Home.

Both authorities warned that as a result of these essential planned works customers would have experienced lower water pressure than normal in some parts of the Southside.

“Irish Water has worked closely with the Dublin local authorities to minimise the impact of these works,” the company said. “The network will be managed to ensure water supply is maintained to customers albeit at a slightly lower pressure than usual.

Some of the areas affected include Greenogue, Newcastle; Ballynakelly; Newcastle Village; Pea-mount Road; Milltown; Kingswood Business Park, Citywest Business Park; Kingswood Heights; Em-bankment Road; Rossfield; Jobstown Park and surrounding areas.

“Irish Water is encouraging customers to conserve water while these essential works are under-way,” they said. “We are urging customers to conserve water by not running taps needlessly, tak-ing showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible. Water supply to hospitals will be prioritised and water tankers are on stand-by and are ready to be mobilised if needed.

These essential works form part of the €35 million euro construction of a new strategic water main that will provide water connectivity between Leixlip and Saggart safeguarding the future water supply for homes and businesses in South Dublin.

Speaking about the works, William Mc Knight, Irish Water said, “This project will improve the resili-ence of the water supply network in the Greater Dublin Area and will help to safeguard the water supply to homes and businesses. The works are being planned so as to minimise the impact to the public and we are urging customers to conserve water during this time.”
