Griffith College teams up with Templeogue Basketball Club

GRIFFITH College has officially announced a new partnership with Templeogue Basketball Club. The club will now be professionally known as Griffith College Templeogue Basketball. 

The move sees the largest private college in the country and one of the leading basketball clubs in the country joining forces to form one team.

The union will be cemented with Griffith’s scholarship programmes and Templeogue’s coaching. Together, the team will compete in the Men’s Super League, as well as the Women’s National League starting with the 2019-2020 season.

The arrangement represents a significant step for both sides. This partnership means Griffith Templeogue Basketball will put forward a team into Women’s National League, subject to approval from Basketball Ireland. 

 Griffith College Student’s Union Manger Paul Walsh said: “I am very excited about this partnership. Templeogue Basketball is one of the top clubs in the country and they match our passion and desire to succeed.

“I’m very excited to get going and the first glimpse of this new partnership will be when we have Jason Killeen as head coach at the upcoming Varsities which we are hosting.”

 Templeogue Basketball Club Chairman Eddie Guilmartin, added: “Today’s announcement lays a solid foundation for both parties to develop a long and mutually beneficial educational and sporting partnership.

“We are delighted to have entered into this arrangement with Griffith College which will see male and female scholars from Ireland and abroad study with Griffith College and play top level basketball with Griffith College Templeogue Basketball.”

 The partnership is timely, with Templeogue’s Head Coach Mark Keenan having assumed the role of Ireland men’s head Coach.
