A community-based charity that helps people with Parkinson’s is enjoying the support of a popular Southside pub and its customers.

Move4Parkinson’s was set up in 2011 by Margaret Mullarney and aims to educate, empower and inspire people with the condition to have a better quality of life. She founded the charity following her own diagnosis at the age of 47.

Move4Parkinson’s run a variety of research-based classes for people with Parkinson’s, their family members and friends.

Over the last six months, the work of Move4Parkinson’s has been supported by Mark Roche and the staff and customers of The Graduate Pub in Killiney.

The Move4Parkinson’s Voices of Hope Choir, under the direction of Jennifer Grundulis, had their debut performance in the pub last September, with those in attendance treated to a selection of songs from the musicals.

Move4Parkinson’s also organised a successful ceilí, facilitated by Pat O’Dea, last October. He was joined on the night by Robert Connor and Loretta Yurok from the Dance Theatre of Ireland, Dun Laoghaire.

The choir were invited to sing again over the Christmas period when a great busking session was held.

The charity receives no Government funding and relies solely on the generosity of the local community.

The choir will perform again on Thursday, April 11, 7-9pm, to mark World Parkinson’s Awareness Day.
