Work gets underway at St Teresa’s Gardens

THE Lord Mayor of Dublin, Nial Ring, performed a sod-turning ceremony at St Teresa’s Gardens last week to mark the start of the latest phase of construction at the well-known site.

The development of 54 new housing units includes 16 apartments, 28 three-bedroom terraced houses and 10 two-bedroom terraced houses.

Speaking about the event the Lord Mayor said: “This latest phase in the ongoing regeneration works in St Teresa’s Gardens continues the huge amount of work already done in rejuvenating this area.

“The provision of an additional 54 new housing units is especially welcome. I am delighted to see the plans include a fantastic new park and playground that will further enhance not only the area but the lives of the people who are fortunate to live here.”

 Dublin City Council’s Parks & Landscapes Services Division will shortly commence a consultation process with key local stakeholders in relation to a proposed park that will include a  playground, pitch and municipal facility.

 Since 2010, Dublin City Council, together with St Teresa’s Regeneration Board and the residents have been planning for the regeneration of the site and the development of the lands.

 From 2014 onwards huge efforts have been made into detenanting, demolitions, further consultation, design processes and refurb works.

To facilitate the regeneration, in-situ sports clubs and a commercial unit were relocated to newly fitted out units in the two refurbished blocks (incorporating a football club and boxing club premises/changing facility and a shop).

A new Part 8 was approved in 2018 for an additional four social housing units (increasing the social housing provision to 54).

It also allowed for the provision of Phase A of the public park, a temporary grass multi-sport pitch to the rear of the two remaining flat blocks and the future demolition of the remaining flat blocks to facilitate the development of Phase B of the park with a larger multi-sport pitch.

It was envisaged that the existing sports clubs would be relocated to facilities at Donore Hall.
