St Raphaela’s students stage Sci-Fest

ST RAPHAELA'S Secondary School in Stillorgan recently held a Sci-Fest in School Science Competition for their First Year Science students.

Participants presented projects on a diverse range of science topics including gravity, sugar addiction and which fruits and vegetables conduct electricity.

With over 50 First Year projects on display in the competition the judges, who came from a range of different science backgrounds, found it very difficult to select the winning projects. Five prizes were eventually awarded by Sheila Parsons, the CEO of SciFest Ireland. 

First place was awarded to a project on Friction, second place to a project on the ‘Effects of Wi-Fi on Seeds’, and third place went to a project investigating which type of paper plane flies best. The Best Communicator Award was awarded to students who presented a project entitled ‘Do We Really Eat with Our Eyes’.

The Space Award was presented to a group who did their project on ‘The Effects of Light Pollution’. 

Students will have an opportunity to bring their projects to the Regional Final that will take place later in the Institute of Technology in Kevin Street Dublin.
