OVER 100 new jobs have been created on the Southside with the opening of a new hotel on the Grand Canal and a McDonald’s in Blackrock.

Dublin’s newest hotel, the Clayton Charlemont, opened its doors on the banks of the historic canal before Christmas.
The 4-star Clayton has been designed to marry modern architecture with its surrounds.
The hotel has been designed to integrate the classical features of three 18th-Century Georgian buildings with a new 4-storey building linked by a tastefully designed atrium that emphasises the hotel’s stunning lobby space.
Housed within the Clayton Hotel Charlemont are 189 stylishly designed bedrooms, a fitness suite, six fully-equipped meeting rooms, and two brand-new dining concepts, Gaudens Restaurant and Lockside Bar/Social.
Lynn Cawley, General Manager at Clayton Hotel Charlemont said: “This is an exciting time for the team at Clayton Hotel Charlemont. Careful consideration has been taken into creating this beautiful hotel.
“From honouring the heritage of the Georgian buildings to adding new architecture to the Dublin city landscape, the Clayton Charlemont is a truly unique hotel.
“We look forward to welcoming guests to share in our excitement and to experience the exceptional moments we have planned for them here at Clayton Hotel Charlemont on the banks of Dublin’s iconic Grand Canal.”
With the opening of the new Clayton Hotel Charlemont comes two exciting new dining options, Gaudens Restaurant and Lockside Bar/Social, both of which are set to be fantastic additions to Dublin’s culinary scene.
Gaudens Restaurant, named after the famed sculptor, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, who was born in number 35 Charlemont Street, offers guests and visitors a stylish restaurant option with spectacular views of the iconic Grand Canal. The menu and design at Gaudens Restaurant include nods to Saint-Gaudens throughout.
The Lockside Bar/Social boasts a carefully selected drinks menu, with old world wines being the order of the day.
The brand new four-star luxury hotel, which is owned and operated by Dalata Hotel Group, took approximately 24 months and a €40 million investment to complete and has created 100 jobs.
Meanwhile, another 15 jobs have been created with the opening of the new-look McDonald’s restaurant in the Frascati Centre, Blackrock.
The McDonald’s, which is owned by local franchisee Amir Asfar, relocated to a new premium location within the shopping centre, and received a major €1million digital makeover. The transformation has created 15 new jobs for the local area.
Franchisee Amir Asfar, who also owns and operates 11 McDonald’s restaurants throughout Dublin city, said: “We are thrilled to bring this new restaurant to Blackrock.
“The new location and restaurant changes are designed to make the customer experience more enjoyable than ever.
“We look forward to welcoming all our Blackrock customers, old and new, into the restaurant to share the new experience with them.”
