Hotel’s golf event raises thousands for sick kids

STAFF at the Clayton Hotel Leopardstown have raised an astonishing €10,000 for CMRF Crumlin (The Children’s Medical and Research Foundation) after organising a charity golf event at the Grange Golf Club, Rathfarnham.

Organised in collaboration with Live Work Grow, the event saw huge support from companies in Central Park and over 80 people took part.

Companies including Salesforce, AIB, Mastercard, and Leopardstown Racecourse all had teams involved. In addition, Ardagh Group, Ecolab, Abbey Group, Kings Laundry, Diageo, Total Produce, showed their support by sponsoring holes.

Now in its third year Dalata’s charity initiative, Dalata Digs Deep, sees employees from across the group take part in fundraising initiatives to raise much needed funds for CMRF Crumlin.

Dalata Digs Deep tasks each hotel with a specific fundraising target and leverages competition between hotels leading ultimately to a stronger and more focused fundraising effort. The ideas for the various events come directly from employees and have played a significant part in fostering employee engagement and team work. 

CMRF Crumlin is the funding body for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital and the National Children’s Research Centre (NCRC). It helps 120,000 children per year and funds medical research seeking cures and better treatments for children’s diseases.

CMRF Crumlin has granted €87 million to Our Lady’s and the NCRC in Crumlin over the past 10 years.

 “We were delighted by the response and support from our sponsors and our golfers representing companies mainly from Central Park,” Philip Rock of the Clayton Hotel Leopardstown said.

“We had full tee times with 21 teams of four. The weather was amazing with temperatures touching 24 degrees. It was a great success with impressive scores and we were pleased to be in a position to present a cheque for €10,000 to CMRF.

“Everyone had a great time and we expect to hold a similar event again next year.”

Lisa-Nicole Dunne, the CEO of CMRF Crumlin, added: “Over 120,000 children are supported by Crumlin Hospital in a typical year.

“And between 600,000 and 700,000 will pass through the doors before the new children’s hospital opens.

“So the funding is not only very much needed it is very much appreciated,” she added.
