Dublin boozers are in the running for Ireland’s Best Pub

THE popular bar stool debate of what is the best pub in Ireland will be settled by public vote.
And it’s the capital’s favourite watering spots that are dominating the shortlist of this year’s annual Irish Pubs Global Awards.
The Irish Pubs Global Federation awards allow Irish patrons world the opportunity to vote for their favourite establishment across a number of categories including best whiskey and cocktail experiences, best bar person and chef, and of course, best overall pub.
After a record 25,000 public votes, the shortlist is now in and Dublin in particular is very well represented, with at least two nominees in all 10 Irish categories.
The overall winners will be announced at the Irish Pubs Global Awards on October 9 in the Galmont Hotel Galway, as part of the 2018 Irish Pubs Global Gathering. The theme for this year’s event is ‘Famous for Food’, highlighting the importance of showcasing food in pubs around the world.
The Dublin pubs that were shortlisted by voters include Slattery’s and Toners for ‘Irish Pub of the Year’ while in the running for ‘Best Food Experience’ are the Old Spot, The Chophouse, and The Laurels, Perrystown as well as Angelina’s in Dublin
Slattery’s and Toners are up again for ‘Best Sports Experience’ while ‘Best Cocktail Experience’ has the VCC, Slattery’s again, Peruke & Periwig, Zozimus, McGettigan’s and Drop Dead Twice all in the running.
‘Best Whiskey Experience’ has Toners up against The Dingle Whiskey Bar while ‘Best Community Pub’ has Dublin boozers The Gravediggers, The Confession Box, Toners, and The Jug in Dubin 8 all competing.
Best Marketing Campaign will go to Slattery’s, The Jar, McGettigan’s, Porterhouse Central or Drop Dead Twice, while ‘Best Entertainment Experience’ will go to Oliver St John Gogartys, Drop Dead Twice or Sophie’s of Dublin
The ‘Best Chef’ will be found in The Gravediggers, The Laurels, Perrystown or The Chop House while you’ll find the ‘Best Bar Person’ in Slattery’s, Toners, The Jug or The Confession Box.
