MINISTER for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan, has called for twinning Dundrum with the Selje municipal region of Norway.

Speaking from Oslo, Norway, Minister Madigan said: “I am very much in favour of the proposed twinning of Dundrum and the Selje municipality in Norway.
“I have spent the day in Oslo, Norway’s picturesque capital, meeting with representatives of the Norwegian Government, its cultural institutions and Irish business in Norway.
“As one of our close neighbours, a fellow member of the European Single Market and with our strong historical ties, there are many promising avenues to strengthen our ties with Norway. We have significant opportunities to enhance our cultural and economic cooperation.”
Minister Madigan explained that Selje is a region with a particularly strong cultural connection to Ireland. According to tradition, it was the site of St Sunniva’s martyrdom, the patron saint of Western Norway and the daughter of an Irish king.
“As Dundrum develops and grows it is important that it develops strong international ties and explores all the opportunities available through cooperation with our neighbours,” she added.
