Two Southside colleges up for award

THE Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art Design & Technology (IADT) and UCD are both in the running for an inaugural DELTA Award.
The Minister for Higher Education, Mary Mitchell O’Connor, announced the shortlist for the DELTA (Disciplinary Excellence in Learning Teaching and Assessment) Awards which take place later this week.
The awards aim to identify those groups within higher education institutions who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to enriching teaching and learning in their areas.
IADT Faculty of Film, Arts & Creative Technologies was shortlisted for a project in ‘Critical Thinking and Creative Practice’.
The UCD Department of Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging was shortlisted for their project entitled ‘Incorporating educational and healthcare technologies to enhance radiography and Diagnostic imaging education and training’.
As she revealed the 18 shortlisted projects for the first 2018 awards, Deputy O’Connor said: “This is an initiative that highlights the range of innovative practice that is improving teaching and learning in all our higher education institutions.
“I was particularly struck by the strong focus on industry, professional practice and community liaisons within the projects.
“These are help to develop the future employability of our students.”
Prof Sarah Moore, Chair of the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning, added: “We are immensely proud of the calibre and standard showcased by all of the shortlisted projects.
“These 18 projects have already established themselves as excelling in teaching and learning.”
