LauraLynn thanks ‘everyday heroes’

LAURALYNN, the only dedicated children’s hospice in the State, has thanked the ‘everyday heroes’ who helped them out last year.

On International Thank You Day, LauraLynn extended a heartfelt thank you to those who helped them to deliver essential services to children with life-limiting conditions and their families throughout Ireland in 2017.

Last year, €3.5m of LauraLynn’s annual running costs were met via fundraised income from a huge variety of donors, volunteers and supporters.

Meeting the fundraising target is a huge relief to the charity that was facing a funding shortfall of €750,000 in early December.

“We are thrilled that the efforts of our supporters have helped us to reach our annual fundraising target and we extend our warmest, sincere thanks to them,” said Rachel Nolan, Interim CEO.

“It is fantastic that throughout the year so many volunteers – our ‘everyday heroes’ – partake in fundraising events, from running the mini-marathon to holding cake sales and raffles, to ensure we can meet the cost of providing healthcare support and palliative care services to children throughout Ireland.

“The annual Christmas appeal has become one of our most important fundraising events and we particularly thank Andrea and Padraic Smyth and their son Jake (3) who led the appeal this year.

“We begin this year at a low base, needing to raise over €4 million in 2018 to provide care to even more sick children and families when they need us the most.

“We know it is a huge commitment by our LauraLynn families, supporters, donors, volunteers and employees to fundraise on our behalf every year and I want them to know that their efforts are making a real difference to many, many families throughout the country”. 

LauraLynn provides clinical care, healthcare support, and palliative care services to children with exceptional and life-limiting conditions. Of the 3,810 children with life-limiting conditions.
