Marlay Park gigs to go ahead this summer

A REVIEW of the Marlay Park series of concerts has highlighted the success of the Longitude Festival held there earlier this year.

According to the report presented to the Dundrum Area Committee of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, the event generated €480,000 in revenue for various council projects.

Beneficiaries of this revenue include playgrounds in Marlay Park, DLR Events including Samhain and Movies in Parks and the works on the Marlay Golf Course, which will commence early 2018. 

"The Longitude Festival proved to be a great success again this year with significant revenue generated to benefit the people and parks in the area,” local Fine Gael councillor, Emma Blain, said.

"Increased Garda presence and improved enforcement against anti-social behaviour also helped alleviate concerns of residents. 

"I welcome the confirmation of four more concerts in 2018 so far; Bruno Mars on July 12 and the Longitude Festival on July 13, 14 and 15.

“I hope that they will be enjoyed by all attending and the benefits to the community from the revenue generated will continue long after the final set.”

Longitude returned to Marlay Park earlier this summer with headliners over the three days including Canadian hitmaker The Weeknd, London folksters Mumford and Sons and grime artist Stormzy who made a triumphant return there after storming the 2016 festival.

Bruno Mars is set to play Dublin's Marlay Park on July 12, subject to licence.

The Grammy-winning artist will perform at six European shows in June and July 2018.

As well as Ireland, he will play shows in Spain, France, Germany and Scotland.
