Green grandmother wins garden award

GREEN-fingered granny has won the Blooming Wonderful Garden Competition 2017.

Rita Kennedy of Mount Merrion will receive a €500 garden centre voucher after she took top prize in what the judges described as a very close competition

 Rita Kennedy and her husband Frank (pictured above with Ed Dempsey, organiser, and her grandson Daniel Healey) received a €500 voucher for Hobart and Mayes garden centres.

Rita said: “It has been a wonderful experience being part of this competition.

“The judges were lovely and it was a real treat to have them come into my home and for me to show them around.

“I see my garden as a place of sanctuary for my family which also includes my energetic and wonderful grandchildren. 

“Frank and I tried to create a space that is designed to be tranquil when you want to relax and fun when you want to play.”
