Another big jobs win for Sandyford

THE news that Microsoft will be recruiting a further 200 people to work at its Southside base has been described as “another great jobs win for Sandyford”.

The roles, in the area of technical and solutions sales specialists, are in addition to the 500 jobs created by Microsoft at the Inside Sales organisation in February this year.

Senator Neale Richmond (FG) said this was another great jobs win for Sandyford.

“Just last year Microsoft announced the recruitment of 600 jobs for Sandyford and today's announcement of a further 200 is super news,” he said.

“These roles provide high level opportunities for people from the local and surrounding areas. Microsoft is also looking to attract recruits with strong technical and linguistic skills.

“In centralising their operations to a new campus in Sandyford, Microsoft will bring the total number of employees there to a whopping 2,000.

“Sandyford has had a series of strong job announcements recently and this is a further lift for a thriving commercial and residential area on the Southside, conveniently located close to the M50 and the N11, while also being served by the LUAS.

“This jobs announcement is just one example of how this country has seen the unemployment rate reduce down to 6.1 per cent from 15.2 per cent at the height of the recession.

Deputy Josepha Madigan added: “The announcement today of the creation of a further 200 jobs with Microsoft is a great vote of confidence in Sandyford as a destination for high-end businesses to locate.

“The jobs created here are exactly the type of high, end IT jobs that will form the basis of the smart economy – an economy based on highly educated graduates pursuing the boundaries of technological innovation.

“Fine Gael is working hard in Government to ensure that the benefits of the economic recovery are felt by all. This jobs announcement is further evidence of economic recovery in Dublin Rathdown.”

Meanwhile, hundreds of new jobs will be created through the expansion of a major international firm in the south city, it was announced last week.

Fidelity International is to bolster its new state-of-the-art office in Townsend Street in Dublin 2 with the creation of 250 new additional jobs, the Tánaiste, Frances Fitzgerald revealed.
