Fresh appeal made in Clondalkin murder probe

A SINN Fein councillor in Clondalkin has issued a fresh appeal for information into the murder of Dean Johnson who was brutally killed in August 2013.

The appeal was made as a permanent memorial was erected in Harelawn Green where Dean died.

Cllr Mark Ward was one of the first on the scene that night.

“The night Dean died still haunts me,

? he said.

“I was staying in my family home in Harelawn Green, in bed reading, when I heard rapid gun fire.

“I looked out the bedroom window and saw a body lying face down on the road outside my home.

“Immediately I called an ambulance and attended the scene along with neighbours.

“The sight was horrific, a young man face down, unmoving and covered in blood. I and other neighbours did our best to help Dean while we waited on emergency services.

“I didn’t know Dean personally, however, I know his family well. The travesty visited on this decent family has never being righted,

? Cllr Ward added.

“Dean Johnson was shot dead in cold blood in a case of mistaken identity.

Despite some arrests, nobody has been charged with the murder.

“Dean Johnson was not in the wrong place at the wrong time. Dean was in his own neighbourhood. The gunman who callously murdered Dean was in the wrong place,

? Cllr Ward said.

“He had no right to direct the violence on Dean, on Dean’s family or on Clondalkin in general. This criminality has no place in our communities.

“I am pleased that the council responded favourably to a motion that I tabled last year and a tree has been planted and a memorial stone has been laid in Harelawn Green,

? Cllr Ward added.

“My neighbours were united on the night in helping Dean, which still haunts them.

“I want to thank South Dublin County Council for all the support and effort that went into having this memorial stone placed so Dean’s family have somewhere to remember him by in his neighbourhood.

“I am calling for anyone who knows anything related to this case to come forward.
