SOUTHSIDE actress Aoife Hogan has appeared in her first Los Angeles screening.

Aoife appeared in The Los Angeles Hollywood Dead Film Festival on June 17 in the horror short ‘U Never Listen’, which also screened in UK festivals St Leonard’s Horror Festival and Horror-on-Sea.

The 27-year-old actress, from Harold’s Cross, said: “It’s great that ‘U Never Listen’ got its first overseas screening – it certainly makes shooting it in a dark Brighton underpass covered in cobwebs at 7am worth it.”

Aoife, who studied the Meisner technique of acting in New York and London, is currently living and studying in Dublin. She will appear in ‘The London Detective’, the first British virtual reality feature film.

Aoife added: “I loved being on set in Brighton as it’s just the nicest place, and I loved my costume and the fake blood.

“I’ve done a good few horrors and my character always ends up dying in everything I am in. I always see myself playing someone twisted – I love playing devious!”

The writer and producer of ‘U Never Listen’, Nina Romain, explained why she chose Aoife to play the heroine Gale, a 21st century grownup version of Dorothy from Wizard of Oz.

She said: “When I met Aoife in London to audition, I knew she’d be perfect, as she had the right air of self-possession and innocence to play Gale.

“But, at the same time, you never knew what the character was thinking. At the beginning Gale seems to be just a happy-go-lucky partygoer at a Halloween fancy dress event who seems to be a bit of a victim…but at the end you realise she has masterminded everything that happens in the underpass.”

Nina added that the inspiration for the four-minute short came when she was staying in a LA hostel.
