Fans get behind Conor McGregor for Vegas fight

ONE confident punter has placed a whopping €3,500 bet on Conor McGregor to take down Floyd Mayweather Jnr when the pair meet on August 26, it emerged last week.
The fight fan is throwing his money at odds of 4/1 behind the Crumlin native in the highly anticipated ‘fight of the century’ that has been confirmed for the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.
The mega bout will be the first time UFC champion McGregor will take on a boxer, but punters have faith in The Notorious as they continue to back him to win.
Mayweather Jnr has seen very little support from BoyleSports customers, with it all one-way traffic for the Dubliner to upset Mayweather’s unbeaten record.
“Mayweather Jr v McGregor is on,” said Aoife Heffron, spokeswoman for BoyleSports. “The Notorious will take to the boxing ring in August to face off against world champion boxer Floyd Mayweather.
“There is an ever increasing five figure liability on Conor McGregor to win the fight in August as punters are in no way shy of showing their support.
“We laid a €3,500 bet on McGregor at 4/1 on Thursday morning and suspect this is only the beginning of the large bets on The Notorious as it remains clear that Irish punters have every faith in him.”
The Dubliner, who recently celebrated the birth of baby Conor Jack McGregor with girlfriend Dee Devlin has never forgotten his Crumlin roots.
“I never truly left Crumlin,” he has said. “You have your friends at that age and where we moved to I didn’t relate to anyone.
“My boxing gym was in Crumlin, my football club was in Crumlin. I love Crumlin dearly.”
