A SOUTHSIDE family is in the running to win a top prize of free electricity for a year.

The Traynors, including mum Ciara, dad Ray and Alex (8) from Cherry Orchard are competing in a game show that aims to highlight how much electricity we waste in our homes every day.
Pinergy’s ‘Baseload’ competition series airs on their Facebook page from Monday, March 27 with a new episode posted daily until Friday, March 31.
As well as the Traynors the show features the Lyons family from Kildare and the Taylor family from Meath who are all competing against each other in a bid to win a year’s free electricity from Pinergy.
The families entered the competition online and agreed to leave the kids in charge of their energy consumption while being filmed in their homes for 24 hours.
The family that lowers their electricity consumption by the highest percentage will win a year’s free electricity and a new bike for the child in charge. The competition was created and hosted by Brendan Courtney.
During the same 24-hour period, each household is left in the charge of the kids who will teach their family how to reduce their electricity usage by as much as they can by sharing everyday energy saving tips.
Enda Gunnell, CEO Pinergy, said: “We want to help our customers understand their personal energy consumption so they can become more energy efficient and save on energy costs.”
Brendan Courtney said: “The days of estimating bills are disappearing, plus we all hate waste. It’s bad for the environment and bad for our pocket. Be sure to check out Facebook for updates.”
