Dublin People 11 Nov 2016
THERE was a great turn out at Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Chamber’s 10th annual EnviroCom Awards last week.
Guests at the gala Awards Dinner in the Royal Marine Hotel in Dún Laoghaire heard speakers including Deputy Mary Mitchell O’Connor, cathaoirleach Cllr Cormac Devlin and Pat Neill, President of the chamber, praise all the entrants and the winners of the prestigious awards.
The Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Chamber, together with Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, said they were delighted to recognise and honour businesses, agencies and voluntary groups for the steps they have taken to preserve and protect the environment of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown.
Congratulating all those who submitted entries in this, the tenth year of the awards, Margaret Coles, Dún Laoghaire Rathdwon County Council’s Green Business Officer and a member of the EnviroCom Awards Committee, stated: “It is really encouraging to see the range of organisations that have submitted entries.
“The really impressive scope and scale of their environmental actions will have made the selection of winners a real challenge for the judges.”
Earlier this year Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Chamber President Pat Neill officially announced the names of the finalists for the 2016 EnviroCom Awards.
The EnviroCom Awards Committee then sat down and reviewed all of the entries and selected finalists for each award category.
Expert judges then assessed the work of the finalists in terms of their innovation, replicability, and environmental, social and economic benefits to their communities.
The Waste/Water category was supported by Repak Ltd and had two awards – ‘Best Example of Waste Prevention’ and ‘Best Example of Water Conservation’.
The Energy category, which is supported by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, included the ‘Best Example of Energy Management – Built Environment’ award and the ‘Best Example of Energy Management – Awareness, Practices and Behaviours’ award.
The Environmental Protection Agency supported the Environmental Performance Category.
The Engaging Communities in Environmental Projects category, which is supported by Amgen, saw two winners pick up awards.
Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Chamber co-supported the final category for Micro-Enterprises and Environmental Innovation.
A full list of winners and more pictures will be published in the next edition of Southside People.
