St Benildus College students aim high
Dublin People 21 Oct 2016
The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross, has launched this year’s Run for Life at St Benildus College in Kilmacud.
Also attending the event were Dublin Senior Football champions, Paul Mannion and David Byrne, as well as famous former students Richie Sadlier and David Gillick.
After last year’s mammoth achievement of raising over €71,000 in donations, St Benildus College has set its sights even higher for 2016 and is aiming for €80,000.
Supported by their ambassadors and past pupils Richie Sadlier and David Gillick, this initiative has been active since 2002, raising money for a wide range of charities. Smaller events such as the Transition Year tournament have already begun, with several to follow, building up to the whole school walk/run on November 17.
Last year’s colossal figure was raised through a variety of events, including a bake sale, a raffle and a corporate sponsorship drive. One exciting change this year is the new bright green Run for Life t-shirts which will help make the runners stand out all the more!
The college’s strong commitment to raising awareness of the challenges facing those around us is obvious when you consider some of the worthy charities receiving donations this year: Make a Wish, SVDP, Special Olympics, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, Aware and Medecins San Frontier.
Run for Life continues to be the beating heart and soul of the school and its corridors are already buzzing with excitement and determination to reach the new target.
